1.) What have you learned and/or re-learned in the last 4 weeks of our sessions? (Specifically identify the concepts, principles, and skills in public speaking that you have learned and/or re-learned). (15 Points)
In these past four weeks of classes I have learned a lot of new information that was presented to me. One of the first things I learned by just reading the syllabus before even attending the first class is that to succeed in this course a positive attitude is a must. Since the first day of classes we have been talking about many concepts and skills. During the first week of classes we covered how to believe in ourselves and ways to succeed. I learned tips to help me select a speech topic and learned that the only way I will succeed is if I believe in myself. The second week of classes we covered ethics and proper speaking etiquette. We talked about main points such as the communication process, differences between conversations and speeches, global communication and developing confidence. I learned that I will only succeed in communicating if my audience decodes the same message I am trying to send to them. I also learned that public speaking is highly structured, uses formal language, mostly time structured and is more organized whereas conversations are less structured, less organized, no required formal language, and has no time structure. I learned that to achieve confidence I have to know nervousness is normal but is not always visible to the audience, think positively and practice rehearsing your speech. I also learned my speeches should not contain ethnocentricity, egocentricity or racism. Speaking and listening etiquette are two more topics I learned about. Speaking etiquette means to come prepared to deliver your speech, talk within the amount of time given, don’t talk about personal problems, expect things to go wrong, don’t stress and project your voice to the audience. Listening etiquette means to arrive on time, give the speaker your full attention, give constructive feedback, don’t enter or leave the room during a presentation, turn off or silence cell phones and don’t eat. In week three I watched videos of other students presenting their speeches. This showed me good ways to present information for my own speeches. I also learned about how to properly cite sources and the importance of citing sources. I also learned about the four different ways I can present my speech. One example is K.I.S.S., which stands for keep it short and simple. In week four of classes I learned about the two general types of speeches which are prepared and impromptu. I also learned the types of prepared speeches which are informative, persuasive, and special occasion speeches. I feel that I have learned a great amount of very useful information in this course so far and my positive attitude towards learning will continue to help me learn

1.) What have you learned after you delivered, watched and evaluated other student speeches?
I feel that I have benefitted greatly and learned a lot by watching, delivering and evaluating speeches. I learned from others mistakes such as not citing sources properly or not having an opening attention grabber. I also learned to calm my nerves more as I do each time I have been in front of the class; It is getting easier every time.
2.) Whose informative speech stands out the most? Why do you think so?
I think that Sammi’s speech stood out the most because I found her topic on childhood obesity interesting. She also knew her material very well and didn’t have to read exactly from her power point the whole time. My topic was on nutrition which is in the same area as obesity so I was really into her presentation.
3.) Who amongst your classmates have shown strong leadership skills during our speech delivery sessions?
The person I believe to have shown strong leadership skills during our speech delivery sessions was Matt. I think Matt showed leadership because he volunteered to go first to present. He did very well for not being able to see how others did and learn from them. You also mentioned he consulted with you before his presentation and I feel that him and anyone who consulted with you showed leadership skills.
4.) Who amongst your classmates have shown great collaboration skills?
I think that Emily showed great collaboration skills. She kept the audience involved by asking questions to us and keeping us interested in the information being presented. She seemed to have collaborated with others and you in order to perfect her presentation. Emily also showed great collaboration skills because even though she forgot to recap her information in her power point she just said it aloud.
5.) Whose evaluations from your classmates have you found most helpful for you and for everyone else? Why?
I think everyone’s evaluations to each other have helped me and everyone else in the classroom. I know when someone said one could cite sources better I checked my power point to cite my sources better. I also felt good about myself after hearing Alyssa compliment me on how prepared I was and knowing my information. I found this helpful and it will help me be more confident for my persuasive speech.

1.) What have you learned after you delivered, watched, and evaluated other student speeches?
I have learned a many things after delivering, watching and evaluating other student speeches. I learned that I am more confident with my speeches each time I get up in front of the class and that I am less and less nervous to present. I also learned that each person in my class has improved from the informative speech. The evaluations we give each other help us for our future speeches. It is nice to have both positive and negative feedback to help perfect our presentations.
2.) Whose persuasive speech stands out the most? Why do you think so?
The persuasive speech that stood out to me the most was Tejah’s. She talked about how dangerous it is to text and drive. I think this speech stood out to me the most because it made me realize how serious texting and driving is and how many innocent lives are taken just because we aren’t giving our full attention to the road.
3.) Who amongst your classmates have shown strong leadership skills during our speech delivery sessions?
I think everyone in the class has shown strong leadership skills. In my opinion everyone improved from their previous speeches which show great leadership and discipline of one’s self. For the most part everyone seems to have a positive attitude towards their speeches and shows leadership skills through their motivation to succeed.
4.) Who amongst your classmates haven shown great collaboration skills?
I think that Omayra has shown great collaboration skills. She always knows all of her material very well and shows a lot of confidence throughout her presentations. She also connects with the audience very well and has excellent eye contact and voice projection.
5.) Whose evaluations from your classmates have you found most helpful for you and for everyone else?
I think that Emily’s evaluation has been the most helpful for my classmates and I. She suggested that we should focus more on mastering our power point presentations because we rely too much on our slides and often just end up reading word for word what the slide says. She also pointed out that we need to focus more on trying to avoid using fillers. This has helped me because after watching the recording of myself I also do these bad habits.
